If you are taking your car to a race track for competition or a track day then it needs some preparation.

The race track puts your car under much higher stress than it would ever experience on the road. Lap after lap of fast driving will generate very high engine oil temperatures, transmission oil temperatures, brake temperatures and tyre temperatures.

We have the expertise to prepare your car for a safe and enjoyable visit to the race track. See below for more details then Click Here to see the different options…

Consider the following…

· Engine oil and transmission oil will begin to deteriorate quite rapidly when it is exposed to temperatures in excess of 100-110 degrees C for any length of time. A very good quality (synthetic) engine oil and transmission oil should be fitted to a vehicle before and after any track time, it will give good insurance against engine and transmission failures. Motul make the highest quality ‘double ester type’ motor oil available in Australia, the 300v product is an excellent choice for the track. Using Castrol Syntrax 75/95 in the transmission will give very good gear shifting and excellent heat resistance.

· Brake pad material will begin to fail when exposed to excessive heat. The correct pad material is essential to avoid brake fade (which is a seriously dangerous problem for obvious reasons..!). Ferodo DS2500 pads are a good choice for track day events.

· The brake fluid in the brake calipers is exposed to incredibly high temperatures. Brake rotors can get so hot they can begin to glow bright red..! If the fluid is not of extremely high quality it can exceed its boiling point and the result is brake fade/failure, usually at the most inappropriate moment..! Motul RBF 600 is a fully synthetic non silicone brake fluid specifically designed for the race track. It is highly recommended for anyone taking a car to the circuit.

· In the event of an impact or a rollover there is the possibility of a fire. A simple precaution is to install a small fire extinguisher in your vehicle. A one or two kilo powder type is a good idea.

· Seat belt harnesses are of immeasurable value on the race track. in the case of a heavy impact they will hold you firmly in your seat until you come to a stop and then are easily releasable. Most cars can be easily modified to accept a four point harness.

· Don’t carry excess weight or loose items while on the circuit. Not only will excess weight slow you down, anything not firmly fixed down will become a dangerous projectile inside the vehicle in the event of an impact or rollover and can cause serious injury to the occupants.
